Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) central committee members met the Chief Minister Pawan Chamling on 31st March at his official residence at Mintokgang, Gangtok.
General Secretary (GJM) Mr. Roshan Giri, treasurer (GJM) Mr. Dawa Lama, member of study forum Mr. LB Pariyar along with Professor Mr. Amar Singh Rai visited Sikkim to meet the CM Pawan Chamling. The four member team of GJM thanked the CM Pawan Chamling for passing the resolution on formation of Gorkhaland in Sikkim Legislative Assembly on 29th March during the budget session 2011-12.
Addressing the media general secretary Mr. Roshan Giri informed that Mr.Bimal Gurung, president, GJM has sent a thank you letter to the CM Pawan Chamling and GJM has also invited CM to Darjeeling where they have planned to felicitate the CM for his support.
Mr. Giri however did not confirm the date of felicitation but the facilitation may take place after the West Bengal general election. Mr. Giri further informed that the resolution will be a precedent to central government and said that this resolution will be a great help for the formation of Gorkhaland as separate state. The resolution will also prove that Gorkhaland is a constitutional and legitimate demand of the people of Darjeeling.
Adding further Mr. Giri said that many anti Gorkha people are stating that Gorkhaland demand is unconstitutional but the passing of this resolution itself proves Gorkhaland is genuine and legitimate. Furthermore Mr. Giri informed that Gorkha Janmukti Morcha will even appeal all the north eastern Chief Ministers to pass the Gorkhaland resolution in their respective assemblies as well and regarding the issue GJM have already met with the Chief Minister of Assam, Mizoram and Manipur.
Mr. Giri further informed that GJM will felicitate the CM Pawan Chamling in a grand manner at Darjeeling soon in a grand program. Informing further Mr. Giri said that GJM will support Bhartiya Janta Party candidates in Madarihat Block and Progressive Peoples Party candidate in Nagarkata during the upcoming assembly election in Dooars which is scheduled to be held on 18th of April 2011.
