The main purpose of today’s programme is to create communal harmony rather than being restricted to the Rai community said Mr Sajan Rai in his keynote address during the Fresher’s Welcome Programme that was organized by the Akhil Kirat Rai Sangh (AKRS) College Unit today at Janata Bhawan. The daylong programme that was organized to welcome the new members of the community to Tadong Government College was also attended by the President, (Central Body), AKRS Dr S K Rai, former M P, Mr Nakul Das Rai and President (Youth Wing) AKRS Mr Ashit Rai.

While addressing the gathering, Chief Guest of the day, Dr. SK Rai urged the youths to educate themselves as much as they can. He also appealed to the youths to follow the footsteps of people like Tarundeep Rai who he has made Sikkim proud with his outstanding performance in the recently concluded Common Wealth Games. He also informed the gathering that the Chief Minister, Dr Pawan Chamling himself appreciated Mr. Nabal Kishore Rai for his achievement who is doing PHD in Rai language in the Oxford University.

Guest of Honour, Mr. Nakul Das Rai spoke about the real definition of the rai language. The Rai community should be concerned about the lack of awareness of the diversity of the language which is proving itself as a major loophole in saving the tradition and culture of the community he added. He also said that illiteracy is the main reason of the community’s backwardness and added that education is must for the upliftment of the community.

Similarly, Vice President of AKRS Central Body, Mr. RK Rai mentioned that the main objective of AKRS (Central Body) is to bring the community together and move ahead along with the society. He appealed to the youth of the community to focus on the genuine work that is being done by the Association and also to spread awareness. He also expressed his unhappiness in the lack of participants in today’s programme. This simply proves that there is no consciousness and awareness about the community among our youths he added.

He further expressed his desire for the Rai community to move ahead hand in hand with the society. He urged the youths to open up and be proactive and take part in the developmental activities helping the community and its people to come forward. The programme was also marked by the address by the President of Youth Wing of AKRS, Mr. Ashit Rai. Mr. Rai appreciated the performance of the college youths. He also expected better involvement in the coming days from the youths of the community for a better society and said that the youths are the future of the society, hence they should not be restricted to the Rai community alone but to move with a broader perspective for a better future of the society and the community as well.
