Four Taekwondo players of Sikkim Amateur Taekwondo Association(SATA) have been selected in National Team to represent India in the “Commonwealth Taekwondo Championship” to be held in Chennai, Tamil Nadu from 28th January to 31st January 2011. The four players are, Trilok Subba, Ugen Gurung, Sabitri Pradhan and Naksum Bhutia.
While speaking to Sikkim Mail, State Chief Coach, 6th Dan Black Belt Trilok Subba said that, this is for the first time where the team of Sikkim is going to participate in the Commonwealth Games and it is a proud moment for the state to get this opportunity. Mr. Subba said that Taekwondo has not been recognized in the Commonwealth games as yet.
There will be three Commonwealth Taekwondo championships. After completion of the championship only the Taekwondo will be recognized by the committee after careful observation. Mr. Subba said that, “I have lots of expectation from Master. Ugen Gurung of winning a medal as he is a really good player and has won many medals during the championship held in various International and National championships”.
In regards to Preparation Mr. Subba said that it is going excellent and the training has been started since long.
