The election for formation of state level executive body for Gram Rozgar Sahayak (GRS) was held at Jorethang yesterday. Lakpa Tshering Bhutia was elected as the president, Anjeeta Rai as Vice President, Tsheten Dorjee Sherpa as General Secretary, Tashi Sherpa and Beena Rai as Joint Secretary, Ganesh Chettri as Treasurer, Ashok Subba as Publicity Secretary and Suman Rai as the Assistant Publicity Secretary.
The newly elected President Lakpa Tshering Bhutia informed that there are 162 Gram Rozgar Sahayaks working under Rural Management Development Department (RMDD) in Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in different Gram Panchayat Units across the state with a consolidated monthly salary of Rs. 6,000/-. He said that they have already formed district level committees in all four districts.
The main objective of forming the association is to raise voice demanding scale based monthly salary and regularization of their jobs. Mr. Bhutia informed that ‘We have big work load and have to perform numerous tasks in minimum salary. It is very difficult for us to sustain and run our families with such consolidated pay band. GRS has to look after the works undergoing across a Gram Panchayat Unit along with additional work load of running to post office, MIS, payment of MGNREGA workers as well.’
The association members are working to their best in making MGNREGS Scheme a huge success in the state to fulfill the dream of the Chief Minister of making Sikkim the most successful state in implementing MG NREGS in the country. Besides registration of the association Mr. Bhutia further informed to place their demands before the concerned Minister and Secretary (RMDD) and even to the Chief Minister, hoping for the best outcome.
