Horticulture Commissioner on a visit to Sikkim

Horticulture Commissioner, Government of India , Mr. Gorakh Singh was here in the state for two days since 13th – 15th November.

It has been learnt that Mr. Singh visited cymbidium development center, Rumtek, inspected the tissue culture laboratory, training facility, pre hardening unit, cymbidium green houses and large cardamom tissue cultured seedlings He also visited the tropical orchid collection at model floriculture centre, Namli, rose unit of Mr. Ashis Rai at Chuba, orange plantations at West Pandam, Mazitar Government Horticulture Farm at Mazitar and also visited the Daramdin rose cluster, West Sikkim.

After all the visits Mr. Singh was much impressed by the status of Sikkim in Horticulture Development. He said that the potential of Sikkim in horticulture sector is impressive whether it is vegetables, floriculture or fruits and added that now to make Sikkim self sufficient in all horti products it needs to focus on fruits. The state has a good potential for citric fruits cultivation he added. He also said that Guava also has a good potential in Sikkim and added that it can be grown in any type of land with minimum input which yields maximum output. Admiring the dynamic leadership of its Chief Minister he wished Sikkim to come up as a model state in all respects amongst all the North Eastern States of the country.
