The Sikkim Milk Union (SMU) has initiated several measures to improve both quantity and quality of milk procured from the village milk cooperative societies.

The officials of the Sikkim Milk Union are constantly putting efforts to enhance milk procurement from the farmers. In an effort to stimulate the quality milk collection, the management team comprising of Managing Director, manager (Procurement), Veterinary Officer along with field supervisors visited Assam linjey and Pastanga Village Milk Cooperative Societies on 28th October 2010.

The functionaries of the societies were explained about the importance of cooperative setup milk collection, the need to enhance milk production as a means of livelihood. The management team also insisted on the essential requirement of providing marketing linkages to the cow distribution beneficiaries through the village milk cooperative societies. The issue related to cattle feed distribution and management issues arising out of road blocks occurring due to landslides were also discussed and resolved.

The filed functionaries are directed to facilitate safe and timely movement of milk from societies to the dairy plants.
