Addressing the gathering of devotees at the Pandam Gari Kali Mandir, on 29th November 2010, Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling announced that the Kali Mandir and a statue of Goddess kali will be constructed, which will be one of its kind in India. Besides that the Chief Minister also declared to develop the area as a hand gliding spot and rock climbing spot. He also assured to construct a view point tower at the place from where view of Gangtok can be seen. In order to develop this place as tourist destination proper road connectivity is essential for which the cooperation of the local people is required, he said. He also assured to solve the problem of drinking water faced by the people of the area.
In his address which was centered mostly towards religion and tourism, the CM said that the government is giving due respect to all the religions, religious practices and festivals in the state. The government is putting all effort to develop Sikkim as a major tourist destination and now it is the people of the state who have to be capable enough to reap the fruit. The religious infrastructure developed in the state should be used for promoting tourism in the state, he said. The Chief Minister highlighted various religious projects initiated by the government throughout the state for the development of tourism. Sikkim can be developed as a major pilgrimage tourism spot of the country, he added.
On the way to Kali Mandir the Chief Minister also visited Kedareswar Sivalaya Mandir at Karmithang and offered his prayers. He assured financial aid to the Mandir Committee for the completion of the Mandir.
The Chief Minister was here to attend the eleven days long Maha Shiva Puran which is being held since 22nd of November. He was accompanied by Speaker, SLAS, K.T. Gyaltshen, and Minister for Tourism Bhim Dhungel , Minister for RMDD CB Karki the besides others. The Chief Minister was well received by Minister for Commerce and Industries Ms Neeru Sewa who is also the Area MLA of the constituency. Pandam Gari Kali Mandir is situated at an altitude of 5837 ft above sea level.
Earlier Miss Neeru Sewa during her address talked about the historical and religious importance of the place and placed the public proposal to develop the place as a tourist destination. With its historical and religious importance, construction of Kali Mandir at this place will help in the development of tourism in the Pandam area, she said.
