The 2nd President’s Cup (Bamboo) Archery Tournament 2011’ was inaugurated by Speaker (SLA) K.T Gyaltshen along with former MLA Tathengchen Mr. Kanga Zangpo today here at SAA ground, Tathengchen organized by Sikkim Archery Association (SAA). The tournament will be a month long event and will conclude on 13th of February 2011.
Speaking with Media the state chief coach, Mr. Zigmee Y Lepcha said that this tournament is being organized for the second time by SAA and is completely for the local bamboo archers who cannot afford expensive equipment.
Adding further Mr. Lepcha informed that the main purpose for conducting this tournament is to expose the hidden talents of the local archers in the hills and to preserve the culture and tradition of archery as well. Similarly Mr. Lepcha added that SAA will give cash prize of Rs. 30,000 for first position holder while Rs. 20,000 for second and Rs. 10,000 for third position respectively.
Similarly in the first match played on the inaugural day between Sangton Ranka VS Red bulls Tathengchen, Sangton Ranka came out victorious with 35 points against seven. There are total 31 teams taking part in this tournament inclusive of Pedong and Kalimpong respectively.
