Sikkim Rural Development Agency (SRDA), RM&DD, is organizing a Regional SARAS Fair 2011 at Jorethang, South Sikkim from 14th to 23rd January 2011 for the third consecutive year.
This fair will be coinciding with the Makar Sankranti Mela so as to attract large crowd and customers both from within and outside the State of Sikkim for sale and display of varieties of products of Self Help Groups assisted under SGSY which includes handlooms, handicrafts, clay items, food products and a number of attractive items coming from all over the country.
More than 20 states are expected to participate in the fair which will offer an opportunity to the customers to buy a wide range and variety of items produced by rural artisans. The main aim and objective for organizing such fair in the state of Sikkim is to establish a large number of micro Enterprises in the rural areas, building upon the potential of the rural poor and to assist the poor families to come above the poverty line as informed by the Agency through a press comminique.
The Swarnajayanti Gram Swarojgar Yojana (SGSY) focuses on group approach which would involve organization of the poor into Self Help Groups, through the process of social mobilization and their training and capacity building. SGSY will also provide for promotion of marketing of the goods produced by the SGSY Swarojgaries, in the form of consultancy services, institutional arrangements for marketing the products etc. to generate income for self employment.
