The executive body members of All Sikkim Gurung (Tamu) Buddhist Association, Gangtok, East Sikkim led by its President HB Gurung are on a tour since 9th of January 2011 to all the districts of the Sikkim. The main motive behind this tour was to meet the people of the Gurung Community from all the districts in general and to thank them for participating in the election conducted on December 2010. The other objective for organizing this tour was to call on the Gurung Community and discuss about the topics on which the association should mainly emphasize upon.
During the tour it was discussed that at least one member from each house hold belonging to the Gurung Community should take a membership with Association. Along with that the ideas and advices were exchanged with people about the upgradation and development of the Gurung Community in the coming future.
The tour started from west district and the places toured were Chakyung, Soreng, Badikhop, Dodak, Sombaria, Samdung, Sribadam, Kaluk, Rinchenpong, Sardung and Gyalshing. This tour was fruitful as the ideas and concepts on development of Gurung community were discussed and about 2000 members were added to the association during the tour. During the discussion the Gurung community people across the state demanded a language teacher to be appointed in order to preserve the Gurung language, culture, tradition. They also put forward their ideas on how the association should work on the construction of the Gurung monastery.
The team of All Sikkim Gurung (Tamu) Buddhist Association, will be heading south district from 16th of January.
