Development economist A K Shiva Kumar has been appointed by the Sikkim government as advisor for formulating Sikkim’s second Human Development Report. A postgraduate diploma in management from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, Kumar is a development economist and adviser to the UNICEF. He also has a Masters in Public Administration and a Ph.D in Political Economy and Government, both from Harvard University. He currently teaches economics and public policy at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government and is also a member of the National Advisory Council. Kumar works on issues of poverty, health, nutrition, basic education, women’s right and children’s rights. He is closely involved with development evaluation and is a founding member of the international Development Evaluation Association. Kumar has been a regular contributor to UNDP’s Annual Human Development Reports. He has also been associated with the preparation of national human development reports in a number of countries including Bhutan, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar and Serbia.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling during his address at the consultation meeting for preparing the second Human Development Report said that the state has already spelt out comprehensive mission statements to make Sikkim a complete State and a perfect State in all spheres The meeting, held here yesterday, was also attended by Kumar.
