“Media should be transparent and away from personal judgments” PD Rai

The Most Promising Journalist Award of Sikkim for the year 2011-12 was conferred to Chewan Krishna Dahal a correspondent of NE TV also the sub editor of Himalayan Mirror English daily during the Lt Ram Patro Memorial Award function, which was held today here at May Fair hotel.
The programme was held under the chairmanship of the Chairman, Ram Patro Memorial Award committee also the advisor of Press Club of Sikkim, CD Rai.
Member of Parliament (MP) PD Rai was present as the chief guest of the occasion along with the secretary of Information of Public Relation (IPR) Department KS Topgay as the guest of honour.
Journalist Namo Dixit was conferred with the best working journalist award for the year 2011-12. The sub-editor of Sikkim Express Devicharan Chettri was felicitated with a citation by the committee.
Speaking on the occasion, chief guest of the day PD Rai said that the news have to be transparent, subject oriented which must be away from personal judgments. Stressing on responsible journalism Rai said that the media as a medium must provide actual and facts to the people. When the story is mixed with the personal views, the report becomes colored which is not at all responsible journalism, said Rai.
Media has a stronger role for building the society and they have to participate in constructing a healthy society. Though Sikkim is small but some of the media house has been assimilating their observation. The editors have to have understanding in every field and have to perk up further. Training is most important for the journalist when up gradation comes into question quoted Rai.
Similarly Secretary IPR KS Topgay said that the department has been keen in supporting the media and has been taking steps for the promotion of journalism in the State. The State has lots of daily papers and do have promising and talented journalists. Media has a pivotal role to play for the betterment of the society he added.
Chairman, Ram Patro Memorial Award Committee CD Rai addressing the day highlighted on the life of Lt Ram Patro, who was very honest and was a hard working journalist. His dream of a class newspaper in Sikkim has today been fulfilled by his son Amit Patro he said.
The people have to remember him as his contribution to the Sikkimese society has been immense said Rai.
Awardee Chewan Krishna Dahal said that the award has encouraged him and he also promised to work for the betterment of the society.
Namo Dixit also keeping her views thanked the Ram Patro Memorial Award Committee for the award.
