The Gram Rojgar Sahayaks (GRS) of eight Block Administrative Centers (BAC) of east district working as supervisors for MG-NAREGA under Rural Management Development Department (RMDD) today formed an association at Saramsa to raise their various demands.
The GRS were appointed through an open interview on November 2008 for the period five years with a consolidated salary of Rs. 6000 per month. “Looking at the ever increasing prices of the essential commodities in the market as well the huge increase in the salaries of other government employees we have to raise our voice”, a member said. The members also sought that as they are given a consolidated salary of Rs.6000 with no other incentives it is becoming harder for them each day to maintain themselves and their families with such a minimal salary.
Mr. Lakpa Tshering Bhutia was chosen the President of this newly formed body where Hem Kumar Dhakal was chosen the Vice President, Rabin Rai as General Secretary, Janak Nepal as Publicity Secretary, Raju Pradhan as Treasurer and Januka Sharma as assistant Treasurer.
The new President Mr. Bhutia informed that the association will submit a memorandum regarding their demands to the department. He said that a state level association will be formed shortly where all GRS working in different parts of the state will be included. He further added that the association will continuously raise their demands after the organization is registered. ‘We request our department and our government for a scale based salary like that of Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA)”, he said “We will meet the minister of our department and even the honorable Chief Minister in future, Mr. Bhutia added.
