Temi tea estate located in South Sikkim 18 kms away from Namchi is not only breathtakingly beautiful, the garden is also a producer of some of the world’s finest tea.
Temi tea estate was a project initiated by late Chogyal Palden Thendup Namgyal in the mid nineteen sixties. This government owned estate producers pure organic tea certified by the Institute for Market Ecology (IMO) a member group IMO Switzerland.
Spread over 500 acres amidst a spectacular view over looking mountains and deep river valleys, the plantations is maintained by four hundred conscientious workers. Temi Tea is planted on steep hill sides ranging from 1200 meters to 1000 meters. The garden produces 1, 00, 000 kilograms of tea annually out of which 75 percent tea is sold through Kolkata Auction Centre and fetches premium prices in the auctions.
Around 75 percent of the product is packaged for domestic sale. Temis welcomes around visitors to take a look around its pristine garden and also allows the more curious to visit processing inside the factory. Visitos may also choose to spend a night or two at the nearby tourist lodge. Just above the factory by the side of the troad is a small outlet run by the Tea Garden Employess Consumres Co-operative Society which vendors exquisitely packaged tea for visitors to buy. Here one could find Temi Tea, Mystique, Sikkim Salja, Kanchenjunga Tea and Orthodox Duet Tea.
