On the first death anniversary of Smt. Karuna Singh, the First Lady of Sikkim, the officers and staff of Raj Bhavan, paid a solemn homage to the departed soul offering khadas and floral tributes in a prayer meeting convened in the Raj Bhavan. A large number of family members of the Raj Bhavan employees were also present to offer their prayers.

On this day, His Excellency the Governor and his family members are in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, performing a special puja in fond memory of his beloved wife.

Late Smt. Karuna Singh was born on August 11, 1943 at Bodhgaya, the place of enlightment of Lord Buddha. Her father Raibahadur Ganesh Prasad Rai and mother Smt. Rajeshwari Devi named her Karuna. She was brought up at Patna and educated in Bankipur Girls High School and later at Patna Women’s College.

She passed away for her heavenly abode on April 01, 2010 due to cardiac failure at Apollo Hospital, New Delhi.
