The students and faculty members of Sikkim University along with the media persons eagerly waited for the Congress youth icon, Rahul Gandhi for two consecutive days.
Mr. Gandhi made everybody wait but could not make to Sikkim in the end. The exclusive session “Sharing of experience” with Mr. Gandhi was primarily scheduled on 14th February at Chintan Bhawan which was later re scheduled due to weather conditions (as informed) on February 15th. Therefore few numbers of people (lesser than yesterday i.e. on February 14) gathered at Chintan Bhawan.
The session which was supposed to begin at 11:30am was later postponed for 1:30, but with further disappointment it was cancelled later on as Mr. Gandhi did not come.
Mr. Gandhi’s visit in the state was a hushed topic and was notified couple of days ago. The main motive behind his ‘never- to- be’ short visit was to share his knowledge among the students. It is understood that this young Gandhi is an important personality and his safety is imperative too, but the security was so austere that no individual was allowed to carry cell phones, pen and even a piece of paper (this didn’t apply for few higher individuals though). For those who are willing to get a view of Mr. Gandhi had to get a security pass from the Special Branch, Gangtok. The drivers were informed of his visit and were directed not to keep the road busy for an hour or so.
Well people have their own versions for him not to arrive, some say because of the weather conditions as his helicopter could not land while few say he was on his way to Chintan Bhawan but returned half way.
The reasons are uncertain, but one thing is definite and sure that Mr. Gandhi’s coming to Gangtok has wasted much of the people’s time and it has proved to be flop show for the organizers that is Sikkim University as well.
