2 players from Sikkim to undergo training at Germany

The Boys Football Academy Club, Gangtok officially announced the selection of two of their club boys for a months’ training in Germany by Bayern Munich Football Club today.

During a press conference, Mr. Nima Thendup Bhutia, General Secretary Boys Football Academy Club informed that the Lazong Football Club had approached the Boys F.C. asking them to send over three of their best players for the selection process in Kolkata held on 16th November 2010.

Among the three players two got selected namely Ram Chettri and Suman Rai. At the moment the boys are training under the guidance of their coaches Mr. Samuel Lepcha and Mr. Pranay Subba. They will be leaving for Germany for a months’ training during the first week of January. Established in the year 2008 the Boys Football Club Academy has gained recognition very fast and this is a great achievement in a short time added the clubs’ General Secretary.

Out of 45 participants all over India total 6 got selected including these two boys. The selection process was based on their skills and ball handling tactics and the selector was the ex Bayern Munich footballer Mr. Paul Brettner. President of SFA Mr. Tempo Bhutia while speaking with the media said that the hardwork of the boys and the club and their love for football is finally rewarded. He also urged the football lovers of the state to come forward and contribute in their own way in order to keep the football spirit alive. Stating that this is a matter of great pride for the whole of state Mr. Bhutia also said that each and every youth should take example of the Boys F.C and work efficiently. Mr. Menla Ethenpa, General Secretary SFA, also said that the parents should also understand what their kids are capable of and should make the right choice carefully for them and their future.

Both Ram and Suman are 14 year olds and come from middle class families. The former hails from Bishal Gaon, Arithang and studies in Arithang Junior School while the latter is from Dikchilling and studies in Rongay Jr. High School. Suman idolizes Liverpool striker Frenando Torres while Ram aims of being like Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard. Both the boys are excited about their selection and say that they were very much confident that both would be selected. “This training is going to be helpful for us as we will get international level training and will learn new techniques”, says Ram.
