Bhutia’s USFC a step away from Round II

Bhaichung Bhutia’s United Sikkim FC has started showing the killer in it. In yet another match on Tuesday, Bhutia’s men handed a 4-1 drubbing to the local team Gauhati Town Club (GTC) in the I-League 2nd Division in front of their home crowd in Nehru Stadium in Guwahati.

The hero of last Sunday match against Simla Youngs Budhiram Tudu once again struck twice. Tudu first netted in the 18th. Then came the only equaliser from the GTC by Sanjeeva Raonpi in the 40th minute. 3 minutes past Tudu struck again. USFC never let the GTC stage a come back again. Third goal for USFC came by John D Meyonger in the 57th minute. The final goal for Sikkim was struck by Joseph Lapira in the 81st minute.

But the victory of the day was brought by Langsing Sports Club of Shillong. Langsing defeated table leader Southern Samity of Kolkata 1-3. Southern Samity started well with Heman Singh bringing the first goal in 5th minute itself, albeit, they could not maintain the lead. Godfrey Decker struck equaliser in the 23rd minute. In the second half Shillong boy Sanjoy Chetry fired home in the 52nd minute and Donbok Khymdeit in the 83rd minute.

After losing to the Langsing team, Southern Samity and United Sikkim now have 10 points each.

USFC’s last match is scheduled against Golden Threads on 14 April. If Bhutia’s men can pull one more victory on April 14 against Golden Threads, it will reach round 2.

In another match at Nehru Stadium, Simla Youngs was routed in a one-sided match 3-0 by North Imphal Sporting Association. For NISA Nabachandra netted twice in the 5th and 27th minutes while Maikimnung struck one more in the 37th minute.

In Group B, Mohammedan Sporting, Kolkata, continued with their winning spree defeating Josco Football Club, Kerala, 2-1 while Kerala’s Malabar United handed another defeat to Denzong Boys Football Club, Sikkim, 4-1. Striker Nwokwu Michael put the Kerala outfit into lead in 22nd minutes before he struck again six minutes later. Samjad U and Sajan A also contributed with one goal each at 34th minutes and 46th minutes before half time. The only reducer by Denzong boys came from Patrick Arol Enondji in the 89th minutes.

It was Malabar United’s first victory after three drawn games with Ar-Hima Football Club, Meghalaya (1-1), Mohammedan Sporting (2-2) and Sesa Football Academy, Goa (0-0).
