Bhutia’s USFC rises to slot 2, Denzong trounced

Bhaichung Bhutia’s United Sikkim Football Club (USFC) is now on the second position in the 2nd Division I-League in its pool after winning against Simla Youngs, Delhi, on Sunday. It was a crucial match for Bhutia’s team to stay in the hunt. And the celebrity footballer’s team did exactly what was needed at SAI ground. United Sikkim FC outplayed Simla Youngs by 2-0.

After a goalless first session Budhuram Tudu scored two goals in the 62nd and then in the 76th minute. Bhaichung Bhutia and Nim Tshering Lepcha also played in very crucial match. Bhaichung well defended the attacks of SImla Youngs amid cheering by the young football fans from Sikkim schools who were present during the Sunday’s match.

With today’s win, the Sikkim team has seven points from four matches and is placed second among the seven teams. USFC has two wins, one draw and one loss to its credit. The pool is being led by Southern Samity [Kolkata] with 10 points. If USFC wins the last two matches, it can enter the second round in Shillong.

USFC will now play Guwahati Town Club on April 12 and Golden Threads on April 14.

In a match at the Nehru Stadium in Guwahati on Sunday, Southern Samity edged past Golden Thread 1-0. The winning goal was hit by Edmilson through a spot kick in the 41st minute. In the second match at the Nehru Stadium, Langsning Sports Club, Shillong posted a 1-0 victory against North Imphal Sports Association by the barest of margin. R Lalnundanga

In another match Denzong Boys Football Club, Sikkim was washed out 3-0 by Goa’s Sesa Football Academy in the 2nd division I-League qualifying round. Mohammedan Sporting, Kolkata defeated Kenkre Football Club, Maharashtra 4-1.
