The first phase of the village to village tour of the Honorable Chief Minister and the State Administration has now been completed. The first phase of the state wide tour which started from the home constituency of the Chief Minister covered the whole of Namchi Sub-Division and part of Rabong Sub-Division in South Sikkim. The six days tour that transversed over 700 kilometers covered over 24 Gram Panchayat Units consisting of 139 Gram Panchayat Wards.
During his tour the Chief Minister interacted with the people and took first hand view of the schemes and programmes of the government. While the Honorable Chief Minister took all the important message of State flagship programmes like CATCH program in Health sector, the Organic Mission, Green Mission, Tourism Mission, Kutcha House Free State Programme, Poverty Free Mission to the people, he stressed on the importance of taking on responsibility at all level, productivity, self reliance and quality in delivery and projects implementation.
The touring entourage consists of team of heads of department officials headed by the Additional Chief Secretary. It is reported that many of the Secretaries were appreciative of the Honorable Chief Ministers initiative and felt that a first hand encounter with people to people at the grass root level was very beneficial to them. The Heads of Departments have also gained from the experience of seeing for themselves the status of development projects and programmes at ground zero. This experience is expected to lead to greater appreciation of the ground reality and put government decision making in the fast tract and make the government more responsive.
The second phase of the tour is expected to resume shortly.
