Kiran Rasaily to start art instt. in Sikkim

GANGTOK, JULY 4: Respected artist and architect from Sikkim, Kiran Rasaily, has announced starting of an institution of all art forms at Vivid Kala Academy Sikkim (VIKAS) from February next year. The school will teach fine arts, photography, cinematography, visual arts, music and all other forms of art.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, Mr. Rasaily informed that it would be an educational institution starting from class 3rd to 8th standard but preference will be given on the art forms. From classes 3rd to 8th the institution can discover the aptitude of the students and sharpen their talents and skills further in their respective fields of interest. He claimed that the institution will be a first of its kind in the Himalayan state.

Before formally starting the school next year, VIKAS will organise a week-long celebration of World Photography Day (WPD) in August. The World Photography Day falls on 19 August.

The celebration of the WPD will again be the first of its kind in the history of Sikkim. It will include photography lovers, hobby photographers, emerging photographers, full time photographers, commercial photographers and photo journalists. During the celebration, the photographers from Sikkim, Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai and other parts of the country will display their works in a photo exhibition in different categories.

The categories of photo exhibition include nature and environment, landscapes, people including children, wildlife, flora and fauna, fashion photography, festivals and celebration and many more.

The week-long celebration will also have workshops, discussions, field trips, slide shows, film shows and other activities by invited experts from different parts of the country.

Mr. Rasaily informed that VIKAS has also planned to organize the same activities simultaneously in other district headquarters also in a miniature way to celebrate the WPD.

“Sikkim had great photographers like late Tseten Tashi and our state history shows many of such. So we are also trying highlighting such photographers of the state,” said Mr. Rasaily. Mr. Rasaily said that Late Tseten Tashi Memorial Award has also been instituted for the celebration.
