NASBO supports NASS for rights of Bhutias, Lepchas and Nepalese

Gangtok, August 22:

In a meeting of National Sikkimese Bhutia Organization (NASBO) held in Gangtok on Monday, the organisation unanimously decided to extend its support to the cause espoused by the Nagarik Adhikar Suraksha Sangathan (NASS) and its proposed peace and protest rally of August 24, 2011, a press release informs.

The general meeting of the Central Executive Committee and the District
delegates of NASBO was presided by the President Sonam Kaloen. The meeting started with the offering of auspicious prayer by group of Monks led by Ven Nyeychen Dorje Lama.

The meeting requested the NASS to initiate appropriate and urgent action with regard to the two following points in ensuring the Constitutional Rights of the Sikkimese Bhutia Lepcha and Nepalese people as also safeguarded in Article 371 F of the Indian Constitution.

1. Restoration of Lost Sikkimese Nepalese Seats in the Sikkim Legislative Assembly;

2. Re amendment of the Sikkim Scheduled Tribe (Constitution) Order of
1978 and 2000 to resolve the long pending grievances of the Sikkimese
Bhutia Lepcha’s.

3. Formation of appropriate civic bodies for the Sangha Assembly Constituency to benefit the Sikkimese Sanghas of the recognised
Sikkimese Monasteries.

4. To protest the unholy activities in form of mega Hydro Power
Projects or any such other projects that tend to disrespect, or pose threat to
the sacredness of the Sikkimese Dharma lineage as founded by Mahaguru
Padmasambhava.
