Various organizations join hands for relief in North Sikkim

Minister for Energy and Power Department, Sonam Gyatso Lepcha along with Area MLA, TW Lepcha jointly informed that the essential commodities stock is available in surplus and it is being sent to all the affected areas of North District. Though the affected people of Lachung informed the media that they have been facing the shortage of medicines and requested the district administration to manage it at the earliest. The system of immediate relief fund distribution is un-satisfactory, also claim the affected people of North Sikkim.

From 23rd of Septembers, the youths of Lower-Singhik have started a relief camp at Ringhim helipad by provided ration and good stuffs. Essential commodities for affected areas have also been provided from Sikkim Chamber of Commerce, Gangtok, All Sikkim Bihari Jagaran Manch, Vodafone, Namchi Municipal Council, Nav Prabhat Samaj, Tadong, Lions Club of Rangpo, GJMM Darjeeling, Gangtok Municipal Cooperation, Brothers Tours and Travel, Shiep Society, Mangan, STCS Gangtok had also provided 1000 refill LPG cylinder for Mangan. Several family members in North Sikkim have been provided with ex gratia amounting to Rs.5 Lakhs
in case of loss of life from the state government. MLA PS Golay had also provided instant relief funds and ration to several affected people of North District.

Two dead bodies, Ganga Rai from Nepal and Bhupal Gurung of Buriakhop Darjeeling were buried by NGO, Youth Welfare Organization, Mangan as their family members were not in a condition to take the recovered dead bodies back home. So the NGO’s President, Sonam Pintso Bhutia and members took the initiative to provide necessary help. The people of North Sikkim want the government to take rapid steps for maintaining the road conditions for carrying out proper transportation. As per all relief camp report, maximum affected people from outside the state have already left for their home town safely from affected areas and very few remain in the North District.

The Mangan Nagar Panchayat has already started survey works of property damage in all wards of MNP and after carrying out proper verification the funds are said to be released accordingly. NRDS teams had also started health camp at Mangan for immediate help provision for the affected persons who have reached there from all affected areas.
