Bayern Munchen in India in January; Bhaichung’s last match

F.C. Bayern Munchen is coming to India to play a football match against Indian National Football team on January 10, 2012 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi.

The proceeds of the match will be donated for the rehabilitation and relief of the victims of September 18, 2011 earthquake that jolted Sikkim and other areas of North-East India, Nepal and Tibet.

This happens to be star Indian footballer Bhaichung Bhutia’s farewell match too. This was announced by Audi India.

Audi, the German luxury car manufacturer announced its association with football in India, re-iterating its ethos of progressive and sports oriented thinking. To celebrate this, Audi hosted a special football evening – ‘Audi Generation Cup’ which saw participation of Audi-owner and actor John Abraham, Indian football icon Bhaichung Bhutia, Wener Kern and Sebastian Dremler of FC Bayern Munchen, amongst other distinguished guests.

The evening saw a 5-a-side football tournament between various teams comprising of corporate honchos and Audi customers. The final match was played between winners of the first round against Audi India team which was lead by Michael Perschke, Head Audi India and actor John Abraham.

Speaking on the occasion Michael Perschke, Head, Audi India said, “Audi’s passion for football is amply demonstrated by its deep-rooted association with the sport. We are excited to be a part of the FC Bayern Youth Cup that is designed to promote the game of football and offer young talent the opportunity to experience the game at an international level. The FC Bayern Youth Cup and the Audi Generation Cup resonates with our brand values and passion, and are only the beginning of our firm commitment towards building up football in India. Audi is also pleased to announce Bhaichung’s farewell game with the Indian National Team, a great tribute to his glorious football career. We take immense pride in this initiative especially since the proceeds of this match will go towards the aid of earthquake victims in North East India”.
