Chungthang-Lachung in North Sikkim was badly hit by the September 18 earthquake and the road has been blocked by several slides. It is expected that the traffic can resume after 3 days. The BRO and army personal have managed to restore several slides at this stretch where the restoration work is underway at Bhimnala which is around 7 kilometers from Chungthang towards Lachung where 500 feet of the road formation has been washed out by the slide at this point.
However, the Mangan-Saffo and Salim Pakel traffic is still blocked which is under restoration. The Mangan-Bey road of Upper Dzongu is also under renovation but it has not been able to ascertain for the reopening. As per the information received couple of days before, the Minister for Road and Bridges, RB Subba along with the concerned officials visited the affected areas to inspects the condition of the road. Minister also visited the slides of Bhimnala and interacted with the BRO officials and also directed the BRO for the restoration of the traffic as soon as possible. The Minister also visited Lachen and Chungthang where he interacted with the affected victims of the Lachen and Chungthang.
