Road and power supply still under restoration in north Sikkim

Chungthang-Lachen road has been restored on 11th October by Army and Border Road Organization collectively whereas the Mangan Chungthang road is open for the passage of light vehicles from Wednesday evening but the traffic has been halted for couple of more days to clear the risky spots properly. However, Chungthang Lachung will take at least one week’s time to restore as the road is under construction at Maltin a few kilometers ahead from Lachung. The restoration of road to Bey Pentong is under construction by Road and Bridges Department.

The electricity to Chungthang and Lachung has been restored by 11th October but Lachen is still in dark. Due to September 18th earthquake several places in north district was disrupted with power supply but the Power and Energy Department, North District engineers and staff taking high risk have tried to restore power supply at Chyakung Chu power house machine which has been maintained, Lachung has been restored on 4th October, Pegong on 5th October, Chungthang on 6th October was restored and at Tshaten and Lachen the department has provided the generators as temporary solution.

The Power and Energy Department team has started campaigning at Lingzya Dzongu staring from 11th October and will try to place electric posts to maintain lines at Bay, Sakyong and Pentong village and the concerned department have targets to recover the power supply within 15 days, as it will take some time due to the bad condition of roads inclusive of tough village road conditions.
