KRC proposal to bring Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje at Phodong Monastery

For the preparation of the 900 years centenary on the auspicious occasion of Lhabab Duechen, a meeting was held at Phodong Monastery in North Sikkim. The celebrations are scheduled to be held on 17th of November 2011. In the meeting, the Karmapa Reception Committee (KRC) has proposed to bring the 17th Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje at Phodong Monastery where His Holiness will inaugurate the statue of Thesum Khenpa the first Karmapa in Phodong Monastery. The meeting was chaired by Dorjee Lopon of Phodong Monastery. The meeting
started with special prayers held at the monastery.

While delivering his welcome speech, the KRC General Secretary North, Karma Tshering Bhutia informed that the KRC has been formed with
the single agenda to bring the 17th Karmapa to his home to Sikkim.

Chewang Lama, KRC President informed about the KRC being formed only
with single agenda to bring the 17th Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje to his home to Sikkim. He expressed its gratitude to the state government for taking the initiative for the cause and informed that the Hon’ble Chief Minister has already granted our request and recommended it to the Union Home Minister. He said that the Karmapa is not only for Buddhism but for all the Sikkimese and further appealed all to support the cause.

The KRC said that even when Sikkim is a part of India, the region is treated as step children by the Central Government. The representatives of the different monastery spoke on the meeting. The meeting also decided to shoulders the different responsibility among the members for the celebration. The KRC and the Monk body also inspected the structure inside the monastery for the accommodation and other purpose during the celebration. The monastery suffered damages by the 18 September earthquake.
