Sikkim: East district sports and games competition concludes

Eleven day long East District ‘Panchayat Yuva Kendra Khel Abhiyan (PYKKA)’ competition 2011-12 concluded on November 27, 2011 at Paljor Stadium Complex in Gangtok, organized by the East District PYKKA Committee under the banner of Sports and Youth Affairs Department and Ministry of Youth Affairs, Government of India.

A total of 1,892 participants (under-16) from east district had taken part in various games like Table Tennis, Kho-Kho, Taekwondo, Volleyball, Wushu, Badminton, Athletic, Archery and Boxing respectively which was held in the different parts of the district. Those district participants had been chosen from the Block Level PYKKA Competition which was held recently. Altogether, 7, 409 participants were reported in the Block Level Competition and it was informed that, the winners and runners up from each events of the district level PYKKA competition shall be promoted in the State level which is expected to be held in the month of December 2011.

Zilla Adhyaksha East, Bimal Dawari who chaired the day as the chief guest handed over the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes to all events champions, along with the medals to all the participants. Nathang Zilla Panchayat Unit grabbed the 1st position whereas West Pandam Zilla Panchayat Unit as 2nd position and Samlik Namli Marchak ZPU place 3rd. The winners, runner-up, and the second runner-up of the competition will get a cash of 40,000, 24,000, and 8,000 respectively.

The day was also attended by the Secretary for Sports and Youth Affairs Department Karma P Bhutia, Deputy Director SYA Department Thupden Rapgyal, Deputy SYA for North-East Bhanu B Rai, Joint Director SYA NK Pradhan, other members of sports association including the all Panchayats.

PYKKA committee conducts the competition every year to promote rural sports and games.
