Sikkim: Exposure trip on bamboo cultivation benefits farmers

The Department of Horticulture, Government of Sikkim organized bamboo exposure trip for the progressive bamboo farmers of the state to Guwahati and Nagaland which was participated by 23 people from all over the state.

The consultant of the Department Dr. Tika Prasad Nepal headed the team. The team was also accompanied by Singlebung Matepul village tourism society, West Pandam, Sikkim Suk Dev Rai, General Secretary Jagat Rai, member Ram Bdr Chettri along with people from different districts; the members left Sikkim on 31st September.

The main aim of the tour was to train, educate and encourage the participants regarding the production, cultivation and the benefits of bamboo cultivation. The team visited Guwahati Rihino Bamboo Industry, Wasista Silvi Culture Guhawati-29, Cane and Bamboo Technology Center (CBTC). Further the team also visited NHHDC Sponsored Machine Facility Centre which falls under the jurisdiction of Guwahati and Nagaland. The team has returned to Sikkim on 7th November. The team during the visit has gained lot of ideas about bamboo cultivation and has thanked the Chief Minister of Sikkim and the concern department for organizing such a fruitful tour.
