Two people Laxuman Subba, 55 years and Tilak Bhadur Chettri, 31 years lost their life in a road accident at Mangthang when a Govt Maruti Van bearing number SK 01- G / 0415 fell 200 feet below road level at around 2:30 in the afternoon from a Jyanmara Bheer (cliff) PMGSY road at Mangthang.
The vehicle was driven by Dilbahadur Chettri, 30 years and was coming after spending the day at Nimtar Water Garden with his daughter and some of her friends. Santosh Chettri, 7 years, Abinash Chettri, 8 years, Nischal Khanal, 6 years, Bobby Chettri, 6 years, Bhim Bahadur Chettri, 15 years were injured. They were rushed to District Hospital, Singtam and after that, have been referred to Central Referral Hospital, Tadong.
It has been reported that Santosh Chettri’s condition is critical and the others have sustained severe injuries. Though the injured were referred to CRH, Tadong but because of the negligence of the ambulance driver of the hospital the patients had to wait, while the people were searching for him. This is not a new incident for Singtam District Hospital that the neglect of the staff had made the patient suffer, however this was not expected after the surprise check of the Chief Minster himself only a few months back which had resulted in the transfer of the Chief Medical Officer himself from the Hospital.
The Police sources have also informed that the vehicle belonged to Rural Management and Development Department and over speeding may have caused the accident.
