Sikkim team geared up for National Karate Championship

Gangtok: December 16, 2011

A total of 10 men and women members from Sikkim are all set to participate in the 24th National Karate Championship 2011 which is scheduled to be held at Talkatora indoor Stadium, New Delhi from 20th to 21st December 2011 informs a press release issued by Sikkim State Karate- Do Association.

The championship is organized by Delhi Karate Do- Association under the banner of All India Karate- Do Federation.

The selected players, participants of state has undergone rigorous training for a month under the guidance of the Chief Technical Director, Ranchi Bidhan Ballav Subba and will be leaving for Delhi on 16th December the release added.

Adding more the release states that those players qualifying the national championship will have a chance to participate in the World Karate Championship (World Cup) at Japan, in 2012.

Furthermore it is stated that the Sikkim State Karate- Do Association was established in the year 1988 and was later officially registered as a full fledged sports association in 1995 and for the past 17years is working in service of Karate, the Sikkim State Karate-Do Association has produced innumerable and valuable local talents too. Till date Sikkim State Karate-Do Association has bagged 230 medals in North East Games, National Championship, National Games and even in International events as well. Likewise in the recent 34th National Games, 2011 which was held at Jharkhand, Ranchi, Karate was the only sport which had bagged
Gold Medal for the state but unfortunately till date no single Karate players of state who have shined the name of state in this field of game have been awarded with any cash incentives from the concerned department the release informs.

The players to participate in the 24th National Karate Championship, 2011 at New Delhi are as follows:

Men- Buddha Bir Mangar- 50kg category, Binam Gurung- 55kg, Khagendra Limbu- 60kg, Bhim Subba- 67kg (1st Battalion IRB), Bijoy Gurung-74kg (1st Battalion IRB), Prem Bahadur Thapa- 84kg respectively whereas women players selected are Mandira Karki- 45kg, Smita Rai-50kg, Susmita Rai-55kg and Hem Kumari Rai- 68kg category.
