14-Day Winter Camp for ‘Karate kids’ in Sikkim

Winter camp is the perfect place for students and players to get connected and to enhance their warm skills. Now that the holiday break is going on in Sikkim, the Sikkim State Karate-Do Association is conducting a 14 daylong winter camp at Paljor Stadium, Gymnasium Hall in Sikkim capital Gangtok. The event started from on Saturday, January 13, 2012.

Objective of this event is to equip all 50 participants from four districts with skills and confidence. The camp will be used as a launching pad for competitors to prepare for their upcoming competitions and events, said the General Secretary of SSKDA, Bidhan Ballav Subba to Sikkim Mail.

Since 1991, the association is organising winter camps for the players of Sikkim. The camp invites participation from children and youth of age group 7-25.

When asked about the present status and achievement of the game ‘Karate’ compared to national and international level, Mr. Subba said that it has improved a lot as compare to the previous years. We are putting our best efforts. He also added that the association was awarded a gold medal in ‘34th National Games’ which was held in February 2011 at Jharkhand.

Sikkim has qualified for the ‘35th National Games’ which shall be held this year. Subba said that from Sikkim, 1 male and 1 female shall participate. “To qualify for the event is very tough. We need to put our effort in qualifying and those who will qualify on the National level shall get the precious opportunity to participate in National Games” Subba said. He appealed the State Government and the Sports and Youth Affairs Department to give priority to the association. “If the required demands is looked after than I am sure the association shall be raising its marvellous standard more than the present status.”.
