4.9 quake in Delhi, Tremors felt in many parts of North India


New Delhi: 5 March, 2012

Strong earthquake has jolted many north Indian towns. Heavy tremors were felt in Delhi at 1.11 pm. The thrill was strong enough to shake desks and wobble chairs. Tremors lasted for about 10 seconds.

The quake measured 4.9 on the Richter scale, says the Met department. The epicentre is close to Delhi at Bahadurgarh in Haryana. Tremors were felt in Rajasthan and Punjab as well. Though the U.S. Geological Survey put it at 5.2.

Slight tremors were also felt in Chandigarh.

No news building collapses so far. But five were injured when a house developed cracks in Haryana. Tremors were felt in Gurgaon, Ghaziabad and Noida as well.
