ACS convenes emergency meeting to discuss North Sikkim problem


Gangtok: April 13, 2012

An emergency meeting to discuss the issues of North was convened by Additional Chief Secretary-cum-Home Secretary in the Conference Hall, New Secretariat.

The meeting was attended by the representatives of Border Roads Organization, Reserved Bank of India, State Bank of India, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd., Food and Civil Supplies Department, STCS and D.C. (North).
In the meeting, the Additional Chief Secretary-cum-Home Secretary specifically sought to direct the attention of all the officers to look into the grave condition prevailing in North Sikkim owing to 18th September 2011 earthquake and also urged them to cater to the needs of the public of north in the shortest time as possible as the onset of monsoon is at hand. She directed all the officers to restore the bare necessary services like telecommunication, road network, essential commodities including the supply of LPG and the banking facilities to the public of North Sikkim immediately.

D.C. (North) was specifically directed to tie up with the officers of Reserve Bank of India, State Bank of India, Border Road Organization and Food and Civil Supplies Department. “We have to ensure that all essential services are made available to the public of North Sikkim”, she prioritized. Secretary, Food and Civil Supplies was also directed to tour North Sikkim. She was firm in emphasizing that the buffer stock of essential commodities must be supplied to the respective godowns.

Noting the various problems of BSNL , Food and Civil Supplies Department and that of banking, the Additional Chief Secretary-cum-Home Secretary reassured to bring their problems to the notice of the State Government and further promised to give the necessary aid and assistance on behalf of the State Government.
