Darjeeling, 25 April 2012:
Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) will continue the party programs along with the indefinite strike in the hills until the Tarai Dooars Joint Action Committee is allowed to hold the public meeting at Dooars.
The GJM frontal organization today conducted the protest rally from the Darjeeling railway station protesting against the government.
Later the rally was dissolved into a public meeting at Chowkbazar which was presided by the GJM Central Committee member DB Gurung. The students of different schools also participated in the meeting.
GJM General Secretary Roshan Giri addressing the gathering said the government has been one sided. “The meeting was to show the government that the public is in favor of the inclusion of Terai-Dooars in the GTA, but the government too had plans for that” said Giri.
The government knew that more than lacs of people could have attended the meeting at Nagarkata. The Trinamool is running the government same as the Left front he added.
The meeting could have educate the people what actually GTA was, the facilities and the benefits but the government curved the fundamental right, Right to Speech, by not letting the permission for the meeting he said. This attitude of the government can inculcate a feeling of hetaerism for the GTA in future said Giri. If the government itself wants chaos, GJM will follow the path of Gandhiwadi.
Adding to it Giri said that GJM has never dropped the demand of Gorkhaland while GTA is only for the development in infrastructure, financial development, social development, School-College’s development and many more. These things must be understood by the people. Those opposition parties who are limited only in the newspapers and do not do anything for the people they should be understood, how can they strive for Gorkhaland.
Leader Naari Morcha Asha Gurung addressing the gathering said that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has voiced for peace in the region but she actually is the root for the present scenario. The meeting which was suspended was to sensitize the people about the inclusion of Terai-Dooars into GTA but the administration turned the back face. First the government stand on the meeting was parallel but later they changed their mind. The West Bengal government is partial in the said circumstances. When the opposition can hold public meeting why not the GJM questioned Gurung and added that whenever Terai-Dooars are in trouble hills will help them and in cases of the hills the Terai-Dooars.
“GTA was given to us, we did not ask for it, and we can even cancel the demand of GTA” said Gurung.
GJM Yuwa morcha Vice President Priyabardhan Rai, member Sidanth Rai, Bidarthi Morcha Vice President Amrit Yonzon and other party member also addressed the public meeting.
Similarly the GJM took out a rally at Damber Chowk in Kalimpong condemning the tyranny against the Gorkha Territorial Administration (GTA) supporters in Terai- Dooars. The rally which started from Damber Chowk snaking through the main road reached the Police Station, where the Morcha submitted an application. After this the rally progressed towards the Sub Divisional office where they forwarded a similar application regarding the Terai- Dooars riot to the Sub Divisional officer. As per the Sub Divisional officer, NL Sherpa’s information the letter has been forwarded to the higher officials. (TS)
