Weeklong Sabala Mela set in motion at Kalimpong

Kalimpong, April 26, 2012:

The West Bengal Development minister Gautam Dev inaugurated the weeklong ‘Sabala Mela’ at Mela ground in Kalimpong.

The mela has the exhibition of the different stalls by the Self Help Groups (SHGs) from different areas of the Darjeeling districts. Minister Dev said that after a long interval the said mela has been organized at Kalimpong, which has always remained one of the beautiful places in the hills. He also informed that the government has been thinking of setting up a Krishi bazar taking all the SHGs at Kalimpong. The mela will also showcase the potentials of the SHGs said Dev. He kept himself away from answering on the present political scenario of the hills.

The day also had the presence of Kalimpong sub-divisional magistrate, the president, Naxalbari panchayat Samiti and different officials from the blocks of the Darjeeling district.

The mela has the stalls of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Kurseong, Siliguri, Matigara, Fasidewa, Khorabari, Naxalbari, Mirik and many more. The Mela is first of its own kind in the hills which has been organized by the State government. (TS)
