National Archery team in Sikkim to practice for London Olympics

Gangtok, May 18, 2012:

A total of six archers of National Archery team arrived in Sikkim on Wednesday evening. Jayanta Talukdar, Rahul Banarjee, L . Bombyala Devi, Cekrovolu Swuro, Deepika and Tarundeep Rai are in the State for the training session.

“It’s a history for Sikkim that the national archery team camp has shifted in Sikkim for 20 days, to practice for London Olympics under arrangement of Sikkim Archery Association” said Minister of PHE also the President of Sikkim Archery Association TT Bhutia in a press conference which was held today here at Paljor stadium, Gangtok.

Addressing the media Minister Bhutia said that the credit goes to the Chief Minister Pawan Chamling, under whose vibrant leadership till date, peace has been in door steps of the every individual. Bhutia also wished lucked for the team and added that the practice session in Sikkim may turn into colorful note for India.

General Secretary, Archery Association of India Paresh Nath Mukherjee in the occasion said that Sikkim had always shown interest in the sport , which forced them to choose for training. The Women team has already qualified for the Olympics, but the Men team has to play a qualifying round at USA next month. Jain Talukdar is only the individual (Men team) who has already booked the place for the London Olympics. He said that the team will take good advantage of the weather conditions and practice hard.

Sikkimese born archer, Tarundeep Rai who has not qualified for the individual said that he is in top form and hopes for the qualification slated next month in USA.
