Gangtok, May 15, 2012:
A new executive body of Nathula Border Trade Welfare Association (NBTWA) was formed in a meeting held on Sunday at 3rd Mile Check post under the Chairmanship of Lakpa Sherpa.
Addressing the press meet held in the capital toady, the general secretary Lakpa Sherpa said that the association got recognisation on 1st May 2012 from the State Government which has been designed to work for the welfare of the traders. He raised many issues like the connectivity, toilet facilities and that of parking in Serathang. Concerning the road connectivity, the association had recently submitted a memorandum to the Chief Engineer, GREF appealing the completion of the carpeting works to be done before May 21st, which is also the opening of the Nathula trade route. Thy association has also submitted a memorandum to Secretary of Commerce and Industries BK Kharel, DC East D Anandan concerning the road said Sherpa.
Tourists as well as the locals are facing problems because of bad roads added Sherpa. He also informed that a total of 30 traders will be participating in the opening of the trade and has remained hopeful that their demands will be fulfilled.
LT Bhutia was nominated as the president, Ms Tenzing Tsong Bhutia as vice president, Lakpa Sherpa as general secretary, Anil Kumar Sharma as assistant general secretary, Ankit Gupta as treasurer , publicity secretary as GT Bhutia and advisor as Rita Tshering in the meeting.
Sherpa has also thanked the State and the Central government for the revision of the trade items in the Nathula trade list.
