During its first hearing held today, High Court decided to send notices to the above departments said president of All Sikkim Educated Self Employed and Unemployed Association Nawin Kiran Pradhan to the media.

Pradhan said that earlier Tenzing Bhutia had filed a petition in the Supreme Court in relation with the Tashiding Hydel Power project in which the Supreme Court had transferred the case to the High Court of Sikkim on the basis of the Art 226 of the Indian constitution. High Court of Sikkim is appellate authority and well known to the local sentiment added Pradhan.

The petition was filed taking into account the Buddhist sanctity and environmental concerns. “Petitioner is not politically motivated, he did this by his own” said Pradhan.

The Common Platform against the HPP has been opposing the Tashiding hydel project since its inception. The association has been demanding the immediate scrapping of the project which is projected at the Rathonghcu river which is considered as sacred by the Buddhist.
