Gangtok, 30 May, 2012:

The tourists visiting Sikkim from the past have been tricked by the tours and travel agencies operating outside the State. Some of the tour operators without having the sound information of Sikkim have been in the business since long. One such complaint has come upon in the tourism office, Gangtok by a railway officer Rajendra Prasad from Bhopal. Prasad said that they have come for a vacation in Sikkim through Disha Tours and Travels which runs from Jalpaiguri in West Bengal. Prasad and his family who are in Sikkim toured Changu Lake, Nathula and many tourist spots in the itinerary provided by the travel. But it was revealed only after coming to Sikkim that they had been cheated by the travel agency. Annoyingly, Prasad had today approached the tourism office in Gangtok and met Secretary for Tourism, R Telang for the same. Telang in return said that the travel agency not been under the jurisdiction of the State had only little to do to it. If it was any travel agency of the State the department could not have spared it said Telang.

It’s very unfortunate that the guest has tried to convey a wrong message to the readers. But everyone knows that if permit for Nathula is not issued or issued in very limited numbers (it was Sunday), a out station based travel agency have no power to do that for their tourists. We have tried to convince Mr Rajendra Prasad of Bhopal informing the fact, several times, and by requesting to pay the money back. But he was stucked on the same point and denied to take an alternate tour. He also used slang language to our employee Mr Krishna. Now my question to everyone is, if a tourist misbehave with the tour operators or their representative and not convinced, what is the alternative?
