President of Sikkim Teacher’s Association resigns

Gangtok, November 31, 2012:

Govardhan Gurung, who has been serving Sikkim Teacher’s Association (STA) as its President since 1993 has in the executive committee meeting held today, tendered his resignation from the post. Lajung Bhutia has been nominated as the new President of the Association.

“Different types of allegations were hurled at me in the past few days, and I thought best to quit for the good of the association, Gurung told SIKKIM EXPRESS over phone. However, he did not specify about the allegations leveled against him. “I shall reveal only when the right time comes,” he added. It is informed that the association under Gurung’s
leadership had raised the issue of framing teacher transfer policy.
