Sikkim: ICDS Week observed at Singtam

Singtam, November 22, 2012:

The eight Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) from Singtam surrounding observed ‘ICDS Week’ on November 20 at Thakurbari Mandir, Singtam.

The eight ICDS included Mandir Line, SNT Complex, Daragoan, Goskhan Dara, Pipal Dara, Lal Bazaar, Jubilee Line and Mandi Bazaar had jointly organized the day long program.

Present on the occasion were SK Pradhan, President, Nagar Panchayat, followed by Meena Chettri, Vice President Singtam Nagar Panchayat, Bisnu Maya Sherpa, Secretary, Singtam Nagar Panchayat, Anita Tamang and Ramnaresh Prasad, Councilors along D Lepcha, Santa Chettri, Supervisor Zone I and II along with over 120 childrens and their parents, AWW and AWS of eight ICDS.

The program started with the lightning of the lamp and offering of the khadas to the guests. Priyanka Chettri, AWW SNT Complex gave the welcome speech. Highlight of the day was the speeches from the distinguished guests regarding the importance of care and development of a child. Children Day was also observed. Sports and Rhymes competition was also held on the occasion. The prizes were distributed from the hands of the guests.

Integrated Child Development Services is a Government of India sponsored programme, is India’s primary social welfare scheme to tackle malnutrition and health problems in children below 6 years of age and their mothers. The main beneficiaries of the programme were aimed to be the girl child up to her adolescence, all children below 6 years of age, pregnant and lactating mothers. The gender promotion of the girl child by trying to bring her at par with the male child is a key component of the scheme.
