Sikkim Tibetans marched on foot protesting against Chinese atrocities

Gangtok, November 26, 2012

The Tibetans in Sikkim took out a protest rally in Gangtok on November 24 in protesting against the atrocities of the Chinese government in Tibet.

The protest was spearheaded by Gangtok’s Tibetan Youth Club.

Around 200 protesters covered a distance of 110 km on foot in demanding the freedom of Tibet from the clutches of Chinese government.

In expressing solidarity to the Tibetans, the Healthy Self Help Group (HSHG) and Sikkim Citizens Forum joined the rally with banners and slogans.

While criticizing the Chinese government, HSHG president Thuckchuk Lachungpa said the immolation of the Tibetans are disturbing and alarming for the people here. “The atrocities against the Tibetans reflect a gross violation of human rights.

We strongly condemned the Chinese government. All sections of the society should come forward in condemning this cruel government,” he told media at the rally.

The Sikkim Citizens Forum distributed refreshments at Labarbotey, near Kalimpong as a part of the solidarity towards the Tibetan movement. The organising president Chung Chung Bhutia expressed his gratitude to all the people who have supported the rally.
