Finally the 6th accused Akshay Thakur arrested from his friend’s house in his hometown on Friday evening

New Delhi, December 22, 2012

Finally, the sixth accused in the recent gangrape, Akshay Thakur (26), was arrested on Friday evening from Bihar. Thakur, who hails from Lahankarma village, 150 km from Patna, was nabbed from his friend’s house.

Thakur came to Delhi in 2011 and worked as a bus cleaner in assisting Ram Singh, the main accused, early this year.

Police said the other accused, who is also a helper, was apprehended from a relative’s house. The accused is said to be a minor and yet detained and brought to Delhi by the police. Sources said he was the first to attack the victim’s friend. Now police is scertaining his age.

The fifth accused of the brutal gangrape of a 23-year-old medical student in last Sunday, was arrested by the police in a late night raid on December 20.

Raju, the fifth accused, was detained by the police in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh. Police conducted manhunts in Haryana and Bihar to nab the absconding accused Akshay Thakur.

Earlier four men were arrested. One of the accused, Mukesh, has been identified by the victim’s friend during the test identification parade (TIF) at Tihar Jail on December 20. Mukesh is the brother of the main accused Ram Singh. Both of them have previous criminal records, police said.

The 23-year-old medical student is now battling for life at Safdarjung hospital in New Delhi. The girl lost most of her intestine after Doctors removed her gangrenous intestine during the surgery, yet, doctors are not willing to comment much on this. The victim suffered a rare case and it is feared her blood got infected after the gruesome incident.

AICC chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit have visited the girl at Safdarjung hospital.

Sheila Dikshit assured to do anything to save the girl’s life.

Hundreds of women protests in the national capital and demonstrated outside Rashtrapati Bhawan on Friday raising voices for the safety of women in the capital.

Hundreds of people, friends and well-wishers flooded Sardarjung hospital in support of the victim.

The 23-year-old medical student, who is doing internship in a private hospital, along with her male friend was beaten and raped inside the moving bus on last Sunday night, December 16 at around 9.30pm.

Heading for Dwarka, the victim and her friend boarded a school bus from Munirka, however, they were assaulted, attacked and beaten mercilessly by the seven men. The girl was raped inside the bus. Both of them were beaten with iron rod several times. Later they were thrown out of the bus in Mahipalpur.

    Pliz let us all do whatever it takes to save our women from these rapists. Surprising how these rapists leave out prostitutes who are ready for the dirty work to target those who do not want such kinds of acts!!! My prayers to God are with this victim, and I wish her a quick recovery. The perpetrators deserve life inprisonment
