Gangtok, July 25, 2013:

From now on the Governor of Sikkim will be addressed by the word ‘Honourable’, instead of ‘His Excellency’.

As per the Circular received from Governor’s Secretariat, Raj Bhavan, Gangtok, Shriniwas Patil, the Governor of Sikkim has desired that the use of honorific “His Excellency” be discontinued and instead the word “Honourable” be used while addressing him.

The circular also requests all concerned to follow this practice in all correspondences and during state functions.

President of India, Pranab Mukherjee has also dropped the honorific ‘His Excellency’ when people address the president and had encouraged governors to follow suit.
