CM expresses grief on Sikkimese artist Lharipa Lama’s death

Gangtok, January 3, 2013

Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling and his wife Maya Chamling expressed their deep condolence messages over the passing away of Lharipa Ganden Lama said an official press statement.

Late Lharipa Ganden Lama was known as a humble and pious person with high integrity. He received the National Award for Master Craftsman from the President of India in 1986. He was also awarded with a certificate for meritorious service in 1987.

Lama received the State Award on August 15, 1999 in recognition of his outstanding contributions in the field of traditional arts and carfts. Sikkim Sahitya Parishad also awarded him the Krishna Smirty Award in 1997.

Lama’s mastery over the traditional Thanka painting art was well known throughout the state and the country, said the official statement.

In his condolence message, Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling expressed that the death of Ganden Lama was a great loss for the entire Sikkimese community.
