Twenty-four girls, brightest among over 40 applicants, were selected as contestants for ‘Miss Sikkim 2013’ on May 19 after a daylong screening process by the organising committee here at Hotel Mount Sinolchu.
Candidates had to participate in group discussions on ‘crime against women and its solution’ as the beauty pageant organised by Primo Events is themed on ‘Beauty with Compassion and Mission’.
Later each candidate was examined on aptitude personality, communicating skills and confidence by a 6-member screening committee.
Raj Pradhan, Mandira Chettri, Biren Tamang, Dhiraj R Gurung, Divyani Pradhan and regining ‘Miss Sikkim’ and ‘Miss North East’ Zennyla Bhutia were in the committee.
Raj Pradhan, also the Primo Events general manager, said: “We are happy with the quality of the candidates. All of them were very good but we have to select only 24 contestants. These 24 contestants would be competing for the Miss Sikkim title”.
The shortlisted girls would be undergoing a grooming and training session from June 1 with the grand finale scheduled on June 8 at Manan Kendra. The contestants would be facing elimination rounds of traditional wear, casual wear, swimsuit and party wear before the top five finalists are selected for final evening wear and question and answer rounds.
Among the final five contestants, one contestant would be crowned as Miss Sikkim 2013 as per the decision given by the judges.
In between, a talent show event is being organised on May 27 at Absolute Demazong restaurant here where all the 24 contestants would be showcasing their talents in different fields.
