Darjeeling, May 7, 2013
The Communist Party of Revolutionary Marxist (CPRM) on May 5 at a public meeting held to observe Labour Day reiterated their demand for creation of Gorkhaland.
The CPRM leaders also alleged that the Grokha Janmukti Morcha has dropped the demand for Gorkhaland for the formation of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration.
Speaking at the programme, CPRM president RB Rai said, “The Morcha were never sincere about the demand of statehood and by accepting the GTA they have dropped the demand of Gorkhaland”.
He added that there are 13 different regions all over India that have been demanding for a separate state in the country but unlike Darjeeling none of them have accepted anything less than statehood.
It may be mentioned here that the CPRM had not been able to hold a programme on Labour Day at Darjeeling town owing to them not getting the permission as the Morcha had already got permission to hold a programme at the same place.
However, in a show of strength on May 5, the political outfit brought out a massive rally starting from the Darjeeling railway station and ending at a public meeting in Chowk Bazaar.
“We are continuously holding different programmes for the demand of Gorkhaland and have a clear road map for it. The demand is constitutional and we will not stop demanding it till we achieve it,” he added.
Commenting on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s time and again remark of not allowing Bengal to be divided Rai said, “It is clear from history that Darjeeling was not a part of Bengal before and therefore it would be wrong for the State government to say that Bengal cannot be divided. If our demand is wrong and unjustified then the State government must prove it.”
