EIILM University (Sikkim) vice chancellor OV Vijayan and two other top university officials were arrested by Gangtok police on May 6 from Jorethang on charges of cheating and forgery of documents.
Registrar Col (retired) Alok Bandhari and controller of examinations Vijay Dahiya were the other two EIILM University officials to be arrested in connection to a case registered with Gangtok Sadar police station. They were all picked up from the university campus at Jorethang in the evening hours and brought to Gangtok, informed DIG (Range) Mandeep Singh Tuli.
A case of forgery of documents, using such documents as genuine, cheating and criminal conspiracy under sections 467, 468, 471, 181 and 120B of IPC have been registered against the three university officials. The case relates with alleged issuance of forged marksheets to students by EIILM University.
Later September, police had sealed the EIILM University office in Jorethang on allegations that the university was handing out certificates in a fraudulent manner. Police had launched investigations and a case of cheating and forgery was registered at Jorethang police station against the university officials.
The EIILM University, set up in 2006, operates from its campus on rented premises at Jorethang.
