Gram Swaraj Mela aims to uplift Sikkimese people

The Gram Swaraj (Janta) Mela 2013-14 got underway here in the capital yesterday.

Sikkim Chief Minister Mr Pawan Chamling, who attended the function organized by Rural Management Development Department (RMDD) in the Tashi Namgyal Academy ground, did the token distribution to the beneficiaries of the East District.

The Visionary and innovative Mr. Chamling who was responsible for conceiving and conceptualizing the Gram Swaraj (Janta) Mela gave away the token allotment orders for CMRHM, House Up Gradation, GCI Sheets, Induction Cooker, Solar Lantern, Sukumbasi Welfare Scheme (Land Bank Scheme) and Keys of Car Alto 800, Indica, Bolero Plus through Chief Minister Self Employment Scheme.

Loan Cheque disbursement of Chief Minister Self Reliant Scheme, Unmarried Pension Scheme, National Family Benefit Scheme (on the death of primary bread earner), Special Central Assistance to Schedule Caste sub plan, Loan to SC from SC, ST & OBC Development Corporation, Assistance to Primitive Tribe under Special Central Assistance to Tribal sub plan, distribution of Power Tiller, Social Housing Scheme, Milking  Cow distribution, Seedlings, Green House, distribution of Goat, distribution of Piglets, Rice Rs 2 per kg to the ones with voter ID card, etc were distributed.

The Gram Swaraj (Janta) Mela which was being held after a Sabbatical of one year had much more schemes this year as it was being held for the year 2012 and 2013 for the upliftment of the people and to make them economically and socially secured and self reliant.

Addressing a huge gathering in the ground along with the beneficiaries, the Chief Minister in his address informed and announced that from this year onward the people with voter card will get rice Rs 2 per kg and GIC sheets.

Mr. Chamling also reiterated that the uplifment of the poor people and to see the state of Sikkim strive forward towards path of prosperity is his only priority and he and his government has been working relentless to achieve the goal and will continue to do so in the future also.

He also assured that all those people whose names has been recommended by the MLA and Panchayats and passed in the Gram Sabha will all receive the benefits and if anyone is left out they will also receive the benefits from the RMDD department and urged them not to get disappointed if by any chance someone is left behind in the list of beneficiaries.

People should have trust and faith in all the plans, policies and programme of the government as the government is tirelessly working towards the giving the maximum benefits to the people in order to make them self reliant and self sufficient in all possible ways, Mr. Chamling added.

Further he added that he and his government has always worked   for the betterment of the people and has given all the best quality services to them.

Addressing the youth and the younger generations the Chief Minister appealed to them to use and take maximum advantage of the opportunities that  his government has created for them and become a best human resource not only in the nation but internationally and also stressed that service sector is the new horizon for them and they should pursue it earnestly.

Saying, “Education is of utmost importance and without education development is not possible”, Mr. Chamling appealed to the younger generation to pursue education in order to become secured and self reliant, while adding that his government has being trying to give the best quality education to the students and children of Sikkim.

The Chief Minister also stated that he want to see Kacha Ghar free Sikkim therefore his government has started schemes like CMRHS and in the future Sikkim will not have any Kacha house but everyone will have RCC building which can be upgraded and also announced that in the future those one storied houses will be upgraded to couple of stories one for them, that scheme and idea has also been thought of, he informed.

Pawan Chamling in his address also made special mention of the houses gutted by fire at Rhenock, East Sikkim and assured full support from the Government to rebuild their houses.

Earlier the programme began with the welcome note by Secretary RMDD Mr. D.R Nepal, Minister RMDD also addressed the gathering during the sort of festive meet, and gave credit to Chief Minister Mr. Chamling for coming up with such visionary and innovative plans to uplift the poor and give economic and social security to them

The Gram Swaraj (Janta) Mela for the east district came to an end with the vote of thanks which was proposed by D.C East.
